We have been providing veterinary care, re-homing services and emergency boarding to abandoned, sick or injured animals since 1935. Our founder, Mrs Louisa Lort Smith, established the hospital to help care for the animals of people who were financially disadvantaged. Now nearly 80 years on, this commitment to both animal welfare and social welfare remains at the heart of Lort Smith Animal Hospital. Today, we are the largest animal hospital in Australia, with over 30 vets and 40 nurses, eleven wards including an exotic and native pet unit. Our shelter cares for animals undergoing medical treatment and also provides shelter, adoption and fostering services for abandoned and relinquished animals. We re-home around 5,000 animals every year.
